The head of Hamas' political bureau, Khalil al-Hayya (pictured right), claimed on Friday that the group agreed with mediators to store, not to transfer, its weapons.
"We discussed the issue of weapons extensively and scrutinized it thoroughly with the mediators," he said in an interview with Al-Arabyia. "If Israel does not adhere to the plan's terms, we will not adhere to our role," he stressed, insisting that Israel breached previous agreements. The Hamas leader also claimed that Israel has disregarded mediators, particularly the United States, in recent months.
Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump said Israel is "very happy" with the disarmament agreement that the Board of Peace reached with Hamas, and noted that the Board of Peace will take over the Palestinian group's weapons when they disarm.
