Trump said to impose tariffs of up to 12.5% on 60 countries

 The administration of United States President Donald Trump said that tariffs of 10% to 12.5% will take effect after midnight on Friday on imports from 60 trading partners, CNBC reported, citing senior administration officials.

The duties will replace a temporary 10% global tariff, which expires at midnight and will cover more than 99% of US trade. Countries that have adopted bans on forced-labor goods will face a 10% rate, while those without such restrictions will face a 12.5% tariff, the news agency said.

The new duties will not be added to existing tariffs on steel and aluminum, which will remain subject to separate import taxes.
