US initial jobless claims down by 22,000 to 187,000

 The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States fell by 22,000 to 187,000 in the week ending July 18, a report by the Department of Labor showed on Thursday. The 4-week moving average declined by 7,250 from the previous week's revised average to stand at 207,500.

Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate ran at 1.2% in the week ending July 11, remaining unchanged in comparison to the previous week, as the insured unemployment number amounted to 1,796,000, down by 2,000 from the previous week's revised figures. The 4-week moving average was 1,805,250, decreasing by 4,000 compared to the week prior.
