United States President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US does not "need the Strait of Hormuz" and that it, together with Venezuela, holds about 62% of the world's oil market. Speaking at a rally in Georgia, he repeated that the US started a war against Iran because "we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon."
Trump insisted that the US is winning the conflict. "We're ensuring that they will never ever be able to do to us what they've done to so many," he told his supporters. He also claimed that the Iranian regime has killed over 52,000 protesters during the violent crackdown on anti-government demonstrations in late 2025 and early 2026.
