France eyes expanded control of non-EU investment in firms

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced on Sunday that the country's government would be tightening its control over foreign investment in strategic companies.

"In a geopolitical context marked by strong tensions, we are strengthening control over foreign investments in sensitive sectors," Lecornu wrote on X.

"From now on, any acquisition of at least 10% by a non-European investor in a French company listed on a regulated market" must be approved by the government, whether the company is listed in France or abroad. This marks a drop from the previous 25% that set off government review.
