Alibaba Group is expanding its cloud business further as the technology titan doubles down on artificial intelligence and cloud computing as its next growth engine.
Alibaba Cloud will establish its first cloud regions in Turkey, Finland and the Netherlands over the next 12 months, the company said at its annual conference in Hangzhou on Wednesday. It will also expand its data-center footprint in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France and Hong Kong.
"AI is...moving rapidly from experimentation to real-world deployment, creating demand for both scalable infrastructure and more accessible AI capabilities," said Feifei Li, chief technology officer and president of international business at Alibaba Cloud.
The move came a day after Alibaba rolled out its most powerful chip yet. The Chinese company has committed to spending more than $53 billion over three years to add AI capabilities to its traditional core e-commerce business.
