Insurance stocks like Allstate ALL -1.44% ▼ and Progressive PGR -1.42% ▼ moved higher on Wednesday after online insurance marketplace Insurify blocked Meta Platforms’ META +1.42% ▲ Muse AI agent from accessing its comparison shopping platform. Insurify said that it blocked Muse because automated insurance shopping could leave out important information and create extra costs for insurers.
That concern comes from how Muse gathers insurance quotes. Insurify said that an AI agent could pull the price from a carrier quote without showing important details that explain what the customer is actually buying.
For example, a quote may include coverage limits and deductibles. It can also contain discounts or rules that determine whether someone qualifies.
If Muse removes those details, consumers could end up comparing prices that are not based on the same level of coverage. That issue helps explain why Insurify decided to stop the agent from accessing its platform.
Insurify Says AI Quotes Could Also Raise Carrier Costs
There is also a financial issue for insurance companies. Insurify said that every quote request can trigger paid data checks for the carrier. Therefore, if an AI agent requests large numbers of quotes without a real customer behind each request, insurers could end up paying additional costs without gaining new business.
Insurify Co-CEO Giorgos Zacharia said that a quote without the surrounding information is simply a number and does not give consumers a fair comparison.
Still, Insurify is not against AI agents altogether. The company said that it supports AI tools when they preserve important coverage information and keep consumers in control of the decision. It also said that it would be open to working with Meta on an integration that meets its privacy and security standards.
Insurify already supports AI access through its own APIs and other integrations. Those tools are designed to return insurance quotes with the related coverage information while keeping the carrier name attached. It’s worth noting that Insurify isn’t the only company to block Muse, as Amazon AMZN -2.23% ▼ recently blocked it from accessing its marketplace.
What Is the Price Target for Meta?
Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on META stock based on 38 Buys, six Holds, and zero Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average META price target of $776.68 per share implies 3.8% upside potential.
