Frederiksen: Greenland agreement is 'good for all parties'

 Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the planned security agreement between Denmark, Greenland and the United States is "good for all the parties involved" in comments to Danish broadcasters DR and TV 2 in New York on Monday.

Frederiksen said the agreement was reached after months of negotiations focused on Arctic security, stressing that it does not involve "giving up sovereignty," although the media noted she avoided detailing exactly what the agreement contains. She also said stronger defense and security cooperation with the United States and other countries is important.

Frederiksen is in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where the agreement is expected to be signed Tuesday. The Danish Prime Minister's Office confirmed the signing ceremony will take place at the UN headquarters at 10:30 am New York time, or 4:30 pm Danish time.
