United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he had a "very successful" meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, which included discussions on trade and artificial intelligence. He added that the two countries will hold further talks on AI and that the US proposed a bilateral AI notification mechanism on incidents and issues that "rose to the national security level." He confirmed that the US-China board of trade has been "operationalized."
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the focus of the meeting was to help US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping "continue their relationship" when they meet on September 24. He added that the board of trade will look into "non-sensitive" goods that could be exempt from any future trade measures to restore "balance" in the US-China trade relationship.
