The Trump administration is not setting a timeline for ending the war with Iran, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told CNN on Sunday, arguing that continued economic pressure favors Washington.
“I wouldn’t necessarily put a timeline on it,” Waltz told “State of the Union” when asked about a Wall Street Journal report that White House advisers had discussed the possibility of the war continuing through the rest of President Donald Trump’s term.
The Journal reported earlier in September that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other advisers had privately discussed with Trump the possibility that Iran could continue resisting US pressure and prolong the conflict beyond January 2029.
“I think time — with the president’s strategy and Operation Economic Fury — is on the president’s and on the United States’ side,” Waltz said, adding that the US naval blockade was increasing pressure on Iran’s economy.
Trump said Sunday he was in a “deciding mode” over Iran, weighing military action, continued economic pressure or a deal, and said “very big things” could happen soon.
