Iran has agreed to halt uranium enrichment in exchange for the easing of US sanctions, Saudi news channel Al-Hadath reported on Monday, citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
Yesterday, US ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, said that the United States offered to sell uranium to Iran for use in a civilian nuclear program during previous negotiations, but Tehran refused the arrangement. Waltz added that the Trump administration was open to allowing Iran to maintain a civilian nuclear program, provided it complies with international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Iran is estimated to have more than 440 kg of uranium enriched at 60% purity. Uranium enriched to around 90% purity is suitable for a nuclear weapon, which US President Donald Trump radically opposes.
