France has deployed additional military forces and equipment to the region since the start of the Iran war to protect partners and some allies from attacks by Tehran, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Sunday.
“Since the beginning of the war in Iran, we have deployed military resources to protect our allies and partners,” Barrot told France Inter and France 2.
France’s military presence and operations in the region are “strictly defensive,” Barrot said.
His comments came after President Emmanuel Macron announced the deployment of French troops, radars and defense systems to Saudi Arabia to protect the Yanbu oil export terminal on the Red Sea.
