'Houthis said to vow not to strike EU ships'

 Houthis sent a letter to the European Union's foreign policy service on September 10, promising not to target its vessels, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing two diplomats familiar with the matter. They said the Yemeni militant group insisted that its goal is not to disrupt maritime traffic and that its conflict with Saudi Arabia will not affect freedom of navigation through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The sources added that the EU is in talks with Saudi Arabia about the possibility of "combining maritime task forces" to protect vessels traversing the strait to and from the Red Sea. It is currently unclear whether the EU is also considering supporting Saudi Arabia against the Houthis.
