Lowe's launched a drone delivery service on Thursday in partnership with DoorDash and Alphabet's Wing, becoming the first major home-improvement retailer to offer the service.
The pilot program is live in Matthews, North Carolina, giving eligible customers access to more than 100 products with delivery times as fast as 20 minutes. Lowe's said it plans to expand the service to additional locations.
Customers can order through DoorDash, where drone delivery will appear as an option for eligible orders. The drones can currently carry packages weighing up to about 2.5 pounds and operate within a 5-mile radius of the store. The service expands the use of drone delivery beyond food and convenience items into home-improvement products.
