Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Wednesday that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to the country's Medicare data portal back in June.
"A forensic investigation, aided by the Australian Signals Directorate, is now underway to ascertain more information, including what other government systems were affected," Albanese stated at the UN summit in New York, adding that both public and non-public files were affected in the breach.
According to the prime minister, no personal information is believed to have been accessed, while available evidence showed "no broader compromise to the Services Australia network." Albanese, however, noted that the situation is "obviously unacceptable," adding that he discussed the incident with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman earlier today.
