OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged international cooperation on AI risks at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, calling on countries to work together as AI systems grow more powerful.
Altman said rival nations have previously cooperated when confronted with transformative technologies and argued AI should be treated similarly. Altman and Amodei have both recently backed slowing aspects of frontier AI development to manage safety risks, even as their companies continue expanding rapidly.
The remarks came one day after US President Donald Trump rejected what he called a "globalist scheme" to control AI and said the United States would continue advancing the technology.
