Yemen's Saudi-backed government forces repelled overnight attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on a key supply route to Aden, where the internationally recognized government is based, Reuters reported on Thursday.
Government sources said the fighting centered on the Hejat al-Abd mountain pass, a critical route for forces opposing the Houthis and for goods entering Taiz.
The Houthis have increased pressure on government forces after a rapid advance this month linked to the Iran war, Reuters reported. Their offensive along Yemen's western coast nearly two weeks ago brought them to the shores of the strategic Bab el-Mandeb waterway.
The latest fighting threatens a route that serves as a lifeline between government-held areas and Aden.
