US Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael stressed on Thursday that artificial intelligence company Anthropic remains designated as a supply chain risk despite Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying the firm was "back on the right side" with the Trump administration.
US President Donald Trump previously barred Anthropic's AI tools from federal systems after the company declined to relax certain safeguards requested by the Department of Defense and subsequently designated Anthropic a supply chain risk. A federal judge later overturned the decision, ruling that the ban violated the First Amendment.
