Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated on Thursday that Canada stands ready to sit down with the United States to resume trade talks, but only when Washington is prepared to drop social media provocations and "start being serious."
"A deal is possible; that's in the interests of Canadian workers, families, and businesses. It's also the deal that is in the interests of American families, businesses, and consumers ... We are ready to sit down and strike that deal when Americans are ready," Carney said, speaking in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The United States has imposed a 50% tariff on about $20 billion of Canadian goods, while Canada has announced "dollar-for-dollar" retaliation against US imports from September 8.
