British Prime Minister Andy Burnham's office stated on Friday that the United Kingdom still seeks to strengthen its relations with Argentina despite that country's President Javier Milei's new comments about the Falkland Islands.
"They are already our third-largest trading partner in the region, and that will continue," a No. 10 spokeswoman told the press, while stressing support for the islanders' oil-drilling plans.
No. 10's remarks came after Milei insisted on Argentina's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands and announced he would sanction oil companies that participate in projects near the islands while they are governed by the UK. British Defense Secretary Wes Streeting and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband rejected the comments.
