'Iran's oil minister: We started drilling over 30 gas wells'

Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said on Thursday that the country began drilling more than 30 gas wells at the South Pars Gas field in Iranian territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, the world's largest natural gas field.

Paknejad added that 11.5 million cubic feet of flare gas was collected over the last two years, indicating that Iran presumably put it to productive use instead of burning or venting it, as per usual practice. Furthermore, the minister declared that Iran had been able to increase oil production by about 70,000 barrels per day after the Twelve-Day War with Israel in 2025.

Notably, Israel targeted an Iranian facility near the South Pars field in April this year, raising fears about the impact of such strikes on global energy supply.
