The Republican leadership in the House of Representatives announced on Thursday that the legislative session before the midterm elections will be shortened by two weeks. Lawmakers, who returned from their August recess on August 31, will leave the Capitol again in the weeks of September 21 and 28, but may be recalled for votes.
The shortened legislative calendar gives House representatives more time to campaign for the midterms, which are scheduled for November 3. However, it also severely limits the possibility that the House will be able to adopt any major legislation before the elections.
