Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi warned on Tuesday that any European vessel that wants to "come near the Strait of Hormuz is a legitimate target," as reported by Iranian media.
He reiterated Tehran's policy that the waterway will not return to its state before the conflict with the United States and Israel. At the same time, Gharibabadi emphasized Iran cannot allow the opening of the southern route through the Strait as it would mean his country is no longer able to exercise its sovereignty over that vital body of water.
In addition, the official stated Tehran was not worried about maintaining control over Hormuz, even if hostilities were to resume.
