Iran says it blocked Oman plan to clear mines from Strait of Hormuz

 

Oman had sought to bring in another country to clear mines from the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, but Tehran blocked the plan, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tuesday.

Gharibabadi denied that Iran had requested negotiations with Washington over the past 15 days, saying the United States had instead sought talks and conveyed a message through Oman that it would not carry out military action against Iran.

Gharibabadi warned that any European warship approaching the strategic waterway would be considered a “legitimate target” for Iran.

Iran’s policy is to ensure that the Strait of Hormuz never returns to its pre-war status, he added.

“If the Strait of Hormuz returns to the situation before the war, our success in the war will not be complete,” he said.
