Cyberattacks targeting US water systems have spread to at least seven states, with some incidents disrupting operations, the New York Times reported Saturday, citing federal officials and experts.
Officials said there was no evidence that drinking water had been contaminated or made unsafe, but some facilities were forced to issue boil-water notices or continue operating manually.
Michigan confirmed that a small number of communities had reported activity matching the federal warning, though the affected systems continued to operate safely, according to the report.
Federal officials consider Iran the leading suspect but said the investigation remained preliminary and had not established definitive forensic proof.
President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s involvement Friday, saying, “I don’t think there was an Iranian cyberattack.”
