Walmart employees enrolled in the company’s health plans can receive care for complex conditions at certain health systems across the country through the retailer’s Centers of Excellence program, which covers treatment, travel and lodging at no cost for most eligible conditions.
Through the program, employees facing cancer, fertility issues, heart surgery, hip and knee replacements, organ and tissue transplants, spine surgery or weight loss surgery are referred to providers that have demonstrated high-quality outcomes. For some conditions, including hip and knee replacements, spine surgery and organ transplants, coverage is only available through the COE program. The program also includes a medical records review benefit for virtually all cancer diagnoses through Mayo Clinic, with on-site evaluation and treatment when recommended.
Below are the 17 health systems or providers to which Walmart will refer employees for defined episodes of care in 2026.
