Trump expands beef imports to lower costs

 United States President Donald Trump signed a proclamation to temporarily increase duty-free lean beef imports to lower consumer prices, according to a fact sheet released by the White House.

Beginning September 1 of this year, the 90-day measure expands the in-quota limit to 100,000 tons per month exclusively for lean beef trimmings used in ground beef. The policy includes safeguards "to maximize cost savings while protecting American ranchers from foreign imports and giving space for American ranchers to grow the domestic herd."

Officials stated the action provides consumer relief without harming the fed cattle market.
