United States President Donald Trump announced his administration will target Iran with what he described as the "most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country," saying Washington will seek to "isolate" Tehran after it failed to reach a deal with the US.
Trump warned that countries allowing "financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities" to provide support to Iran would face "tremendous economic consequences." He said the campaign would target oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies. Trump called the measures an "economic D-Day" and urged US allies to join the effort.
"These maniacs are on the ropes, and these HISTORIC MEASURES will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide," the US president concluded.
