'US quietly establishes Hormuz oil corridor - Axios'

The US military has quietly established a shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz that is helping move about 10 million barrels of oil a day, Axios reported Wednesday, citing two US officials.

The operation has been underway for several weeks, with 15 to 20 tankers moving in and out of the strait each night through a southern channel along the coast of Oman, the officials said.

The US military is also helping empty tankers enter the Persian Gulf from the Arabian Sea to load oil in the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait before coordinating their passage back through the strait. The task force overseeing the operation is being run from the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division headquarters at Fort Bragg, according to the report.

One US official told Axios that Washington has controlled the southern lane of the strait for two months, saying the Revolutionary Guards could still be a “nuisance” but did not control the waterway.

President Donald Trump told Axios Wednesday that a “tremendous amount of oil” was moving through the Strait of Hormuz.
