Sweden approves $728M HIMARS artillery purchase

 The Swedish government on Monday approved the purchase of US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), allocating roughly $728 million for the procurement from Lockheed Martin, with the first deliveries expected in 2027.

"In light of the security situation, rapidly available capabilities are needed that complement conventional artillery systems such as Archer artillery systems and grenade launchers," the government noted in the statement.

In addition, Lockheed and Swedish defense and aerospace company Saab signed a joint declaration to explore integrating Saab's Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into HIMARS and producing munitions for HIMARS and other systems, including Patriot air defenses.
