Le Pen promises 'major change' in first campaign speech

Marine Le Pen, the far-right National Rally's candidate for the French presidency, held her first campaign speech on Sunday, vowing to bring "major change" if she wins next year's election.

"France is in this state because of its leaders," Le Pen noted amid widespread protests in the country. "France has bright days ahead of it, and may its recovery begin here, in Orleans," she added, stressing the whole country agrees with her party.

According to polls, Le Pen is seen as the favorite to win the 2027 presidential election in France, with her support in the first round standing at around 35%, with her closest rival, leftist candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon, polling at around 16%. Le Pen is also seen as the likely winner of the second round in several scenarios with different opponents.
