China Threatens Retaliation Over U.S. Robot Import Ban

China’s commerce ministry warned it would “resolutely retaliate” if the United States continues its unilateral ban on new Chinese robots and power inverters, calling the measures discriminatory and a form of market distortion.

The ban, announced by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on July 28, targets imports of humanoid and quadruped robots as well as connected power inverters that enable renewable energy and data‑center equipment to link to grids, as part of a broader effort to secure the AI supply chain.

 Beijing said the FCC had ignored repeated representations and that the restrictions generalise national security at the expense of both Chinese and American industries.

 U.S. officials said the move is intended to protect against data theft, cyberattacks and to encourage reshoring of key manufacturing sectors, while the Chinese embassy has not yet responded.
