Iran’s armed forces are implementing Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s orders on managing the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters, the spokesperson for parliament’s national security committee said on Sunday.
Explaining Tehran’s opposition to a southern Omani corridor through the strait, Hassan Ghashghavi said tankers using the route could carry fuel for US and Israeli aircraft, while commercial vessels could be used to transport military equipment and weapons to US bases in the region.
He said Iran would have no ability to monitor or control such traffic, making the proposed corridor incompatible with its national security.
