Chilean state-owned mining company and the largest copper mining company in the world, Codelco, said on Tuesday that it informed its board of new inconsistencies in 2024–2025 production figures, allegedly inflating reported output at the Ministro Hales and Salvador divisions. The same material was reportedly recorded as production by more than one division.
The board commissioned EY to "conduct an independent external audit" and handed new information to the Public Prosecutor's Office. KPMG continues reviewing all divisional production.
CEO Jorge Gomez said the administration will "thoroughly investigate any irregularities" and "pursue the recovery of any potential financial losses that may have occurred." Chairman Bernardo Fontaine said that "getting our house in order with responsibility and transparency is essential to strengthening Codelco."
