The US Treasury Department warned foreign financial institutions Monday that they could face sanctions without advance notice if they continue doing business with sanctioned Iranian financial institutions.
“Foreign financial institutions continuing to transact with sanctioned Iranian financial institutions could be targeted at any time without advance notification and should take immediate action to terminate such activity and relationships,” the Treasury said in an alert.
The warning comes as Washington steps up its campaign to isolate Iran financially under Operation Economic Outcast. In recent days, the Treasury has targeted Iranian military procurement networks and the Russia-linked A7 financial network, while warning of increased secondary-sanctions risks for entities continuing to do business with Tehran.
