The United States withdrew all of its B-1 bomber jets from Britain's RAF Fairford air base following the incident that led to the arrest of six suspects believed to be possibly plotting an attack on the base, officials told The Wall Street Journal on Sunday.
The Pentagon said the bombers have returned to their home stations in the United States, while emphasizing that they remain ready to provide global strike capabilities from the continental US, the Pentagon confirmed to the outlet in a statement. Namely, all suspects were released on bail.
The base was heavily used by US troops during military operations against Iran. Separately, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham accused Tehran of being behind the incident at the Fairford base, claiming that "strong indications" prove its involvement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected the claim, saying that Britain is "barking up the wrong tree."
