Former Polish Prime Minister and Development Plus party leader Mateusz Morawiecki proposed on Saturday a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government amid a Constitutional Tribunal crisis.
"Our proposal: a technical government led by [former Marshal of the Sejm and Right Wing of the Republic party founder] Marek Jurek until elections that will establish a new parliamentary majority. A reset of the Constitutional Tribunal is necessary," Morawiecki said, adding that many political groups agree.
The crisis erupted after Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska suspended Constitutional Tribunal head Bogdan Swieczkowski, and police cordoned off the court, with Tusk claiming that the move aimed to restore the rule of law after judicial changes introduced during eight years of President Karol Nawrocki's Law and Justice (PiS) rule, which ended in 2023. Meanwhile, Nawrocki accused Tusk's government of violating "the constitutional order" and of a "forcible takeover of a constitutional state body."
