The United States Department of State approved on Friday the potential sale of PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles and related equipment to Ukraine, in the value of $2.1 billion, according to a statement posted on its website. The costs will be fully funded by partners and allies.
"The Government of Ukraine has requested to buy five hundred (500) PATRIOT Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) missiles. The following non-major defense equipment items will also be included: PAC-3 MSE classified and unclassified spare parts; and other related elements of logistics and program support," the US government detailed.
The proposed sale is not only set to improve Ukraine's response to current and future threats, but also supports Washington's foreign policy and national security objectives. Lockheed Martin Corporation was chosen as the primary contractor.
