The United States Department of State instructed the non-emergency staff of the embassy in Saudi Arabia to leave the country amid intensifying Houthi attacks, the embassy said on Friday.
The State Department also ordered the family members of U.S. government employees to depart Saudi Arabia due to safety risks, stressing that the conflict may escalate. The embassy said that its employees need special authorization to use any of the airports in Saudi Arabia following recent Houthi attacks on airports in the country.
Earlier today, the Saudi-led coalition noted that its forces shot down a ballistic missile and a drone launched by Yemen's Houthis targeting southern Saudi Arabia and the capital Riyadh.
