Iran remains on the Financial Action Task Force blacklist of countries with serious deficiencies in combating money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of weapons proliferation, following the watchdog's latest review on Friday.
The Paris-based financial watchdog maintained Iran's high-risk designation, which subjects financial transactions involving the country to heightened scrutiny and countermeasures aimed at protecting the international financial system.
Iran has remained on the blacklist since 2020, with FATF previously citing Tehran's failure to adequately address terrorist financing risks and implement international financial safeguards. North Korea and Myanmar also remain blacklisted.
