Iran has shifted from a strategy of regional warfare to one of retaliation without geographic limits, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Tasnim news agency said on Saturday, interpreting a new directive attributed to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Tasnim said the shift followed a statement carried by Iranian state media in which Khamenei instructed military commanders to respond to threats immediately and effectively "without geographic limitations."
The agency described the wording as a significant expansion of Iran's military posture, arguing that Tehran was no longer restricting potential retaliation to the Middle East.
Tasnim said the earlier approach, outlined by former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei before the war began, had focused on making any conflict regional.
It argued that Iranian missile and drone attacks on US interests across the region and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz had demonstrated Tehran's ability to extend the consequences of the war beyond its borders.
The agency said the latest directive indicated that any future confrontation could bring attacks beyond the areas targeted during the earlier 40-day phase of fighting.
