White House monitors possible plague case in Russia

 The White House is monitoring reports of a suspected plague case in Russia's Irkutsk region and assessing possible responses, Axios reported on Sunday, citing an administration official.

The case involves a 28-year-old employee of an anti-plague research facility who died after developing severe pneumonia days accidentally breaking a test tube containing a pneumonic plague pathogen.

Nearly 200 people who had contact with the woman were placed under medical observation and Russian authorities said they showed no symptoms and tested negative.
