Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, leads the first round of the Brazilian presidential election with 64.81% of ballots counted. Bolsonaro has 49.58% of the votes, followed by current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at 42.25%.
If neither candidate surpasses 50%, the election will proceed to a runoff on October 25. The new president will be sworn in on January 5, 2027. If Lula wins, it will be the 80-year-old's second consecutive term and fourth overall.
