Brazil's presidential race heads into runoff

Brazil's presidential election will be decided in a runoff after neither the current president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, nor his opponent, Flavio Bolsonaro, managed to win more than 50% of the vote on Sunday.

With 98.81% of the votes counted, right-wing Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, had 47.24% of the vote, ahead of incumbent left-wing Lula, who had 44.91%. The runoff election will be held on October 25.
