'US says UK cooperating after arrests near RAF Fairford'

The United States remains confident in the security of its military bases after arrests near RAF Fairford prompted an investigation into possible Iranian involvement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday.

British authorities have been “very cooperative” in handling the case, Rubio said.

Asked whether the removal of US B-1 bombers from Fairford was connected to the arrests, Rubio said the Defense Department constantly reallocates resources and he would not directly link the two developments.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham previously said there were “strong indications” Iran played a part in what happened near RAF Fairford, while British counter-terrorism police have examined possible foreign-state involvement.

Rubio said the episode “clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor” but did not identify a country. President Donald Trump criticized the decision to release the suspects on bail, while Iran denied involvement.
