The United States and nine other Western Hemisphere countries on Monday condemned Iran-backed terrorist activity and influence operations in the region, pledging greater coordination to counter them.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies must halt these actions now,” the countries said in a joint statement.
The governments cited lethal plots, illicit fundraising, political interference and foreign influence activities, as well as operations intended to strengthen terrorist networks, coerce perceived enemies, compromise legal or administrative processes and harm regional security.
The countries said they would take further measures against such activity and strengthen coordination and cooperation to address the threat.
The statement was signed by the United States, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago.
It followed a Countering Transnational Terrorism Forum co-hosted last month by the United States and Paraguay to increase law-enforcement cooperation against Iran-linked activity in the Western Hemisphere.
