The Japanese Ministry of Defense is allegedly planning to develop artificial intelligence-powered satellites, able to analyze surveillance data in space, to speed up the counterstrike decision-making process, Nikkei reported on Friday.
According to the news outlet, the ministry will work with Japanese domestic companies to build test satellites between fiscal 2027 and 2029.
Additionally, the first launches to evaluate the satellites' capabilities in space are scheduled for fiscal 2030 or later.
