US, E3 push to report Iran to Security Council over nuclear program

 

The United States, Britain, France and Germany are pushing members of the UN nuclear watchdog’s board to report Iran to the UN Security Council for the first time in 20 years, diplomats told Reuters on Friday.

The four countries are seeking passage of a resolution at next week’s meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-nation board.

The IAEA board has passed two resolutions over the past year demanding that Tehran declare its enriched uranium stocks and grant inspectors full access to verify them.

A referral to the Security Council would mark a significant escalation in the long-running standoff over Iran’s nuclear program.
