AstraZeneca PLC is preparing to submit its first fully owned antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), sonesitatug vedotin, for regulatory approval after a late-stage trial showed it reduced the risk of death by 42% in advanced gastric cancer patients, according to The Wall Street Journal.
David Fredrickson, the head of AstraZeneca's oncology business, stated in an interview that the results show they "can continue to bring antibody-drug conjugates into areas where classic chemotherapy has historically been the standard of care."
The company licensed the medicine from China's KYM Biosciences in 2023, is testing multiple other in-house ADCs, and estimates peak annual revenue of $3 billion to $5 billion for the new drug.
