Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said a planned restricted maritime zone outside the Strait of Hormuz will extend from the direction of Chabahar into parts of the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said the precise coordinates would be announced later and warned that vessels entering the area without coordination with Iran would face sanctions, including restrictions on maritime, insurance and support services.
The announcement follows comments by Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei on Sunday that Iran would establish a restricted zone outside Hormuz in the coming days, potentially extending Tehran’s efforts to control shipping beyond the strategic strait.
